Band to Watch: Locust Avenue

Locust Avenue formed in Norman, Oklahoma after the guys got together as a Kinks tribute band, Locust Avenue went their separate ways, reformed, and eventually joined up with guitarist, Todd Walker (Defenestration). Led by the strong songwriting talents of Jeff Richardson (guitar/vocals) Jeff Cooper and Blaine Palmer provide bass and drums to a soundtrack of pain, love, and longing – you know all the things of solid musical fodder.
Three O’Clock Target (a reference to the victims of after-school bullies) is nine tracks of rich, Guided By Voices-tinged guitar and Ray Davies influenced storytelling. In the opening song, “Frenzy”, we begin to get a picture of Richardson’s optimistic protagonist. The pace continues to an almost explosive point on the third track, “Skeletons”, a fuzz addled ode to past lives and love. It all wraps up with “Get Off the Farm” a nearly eight minute psyched out tribute to perseverance.
Three O’Clock Target was recorded in Late 2007 by Chris Harris (Subatomic Pieces) at Atomic Sound with additional tracking by Trent Bell (Chainsaw Kittens) at Bell Labs, Norman, OK
