Band to Watch – Chapman & Brocker
Chapman & Brocker are brothers who got their start in 2003 when their father decided to put one of their songs on his surfing documentary, Best Hours of the Day. Apparently he didn’t regret his decision because he ended up letting them score the entire documentary. Excited at the opportunity the brothers worked tirelessly in a small bedroom studio until the score was complete. After some glowing reviews from the L.A. Times and other publications Chapman & Brocker decided the song writing business might suit them well. Influenced by their favorite composers they started working on their debut full length album. After three years of writing and producing everything themselves they had the beautiful, Dance of the Crazy Man to justify all the tiresome hours.
I received this album in the mail the other day and my wife and I decided to put it on while we were making dinner. About two or three songs in we kind of put dinner on hold and decided we should listen to the rest of the album. After the first listen we were both more than impressed and decided to play it again and later a third time. The album is filled with enough catchy hooks to make it accessible, but the multiple instruments used keep it from being just another pop album.
To make a long story short Dance of the Crazy Man is a remarkable album that deserves to be heard.
