Band To Watch: The Instant
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Cincinnati’s, The Instant, you are missing out. Their latest album, Part-Y, is somewhat of concept album that deals with the journey through a Party. It also had the unfortunate fate of being the first album I listened to post In Rainbows. I have to tell you it was a surprisingly smooth transition. Part-Y is upbeat and fun, and was just what I needed after my In Rainbows binge. Noticeable influences on their album are The Strokes, The Velvet Underground, the Cars, and plenty of other synthy 80’s bands. The album also takes a bit of time to poke fun at past pop songs that somehow worked their way into their parent’s hearts and record collections. They say that despite the terrible melodies and catchy but boring refrains, they are very confident you will be able to pick them out when you hear them. So take some time and give them a listen. I have a feeling you will like what you hear and you will definitely find yourself looking for a party.
