Band to Watch: Your 33 Black Angels
It’s always nice when we receive an email tip about a band, and even nicer when the band turns out to be good. A few days ago we received an email from Salad Days Reader, Brian, suggesting we take a listen to Your 33 Black Angels. We did, and the end result is a “band to watch” post. Their sound has been described as “Pavement meets The Strokes” which in its own makes this worth listening to, of course I will listen to anything influenced by Pavement at least once.
More band information and mp3 after the jump.
Y33BA was born in Brooklyn, but dreamed in a West Harlem flophouse. There was a bottle of Wild Turkey, grown men in boxers, and far too much bachata music going around. We were not fond of “shoegazer” sensibilities or requisite visits to tatoo parlors; we wanted to sing about the basics: cold merciless women, irresponsible philosophy and violence. We all [unprintable under advice of legal counsel] and insanity and made it our torch: Benji with his ‘stache and rolled tobacco, John with his dominant chin and [unprintable], Josh with his guile, mind control and[unprintable], and Tim with myriad indulgences and Epicurean essence. They took on the monikers from today’s hip slang, and the Earth was made anew…The M-Diddy, J-O-C, BJ KastIron, and W, the undertaker.
The album was recently reviewed by David Fricke, the Senior Editor of Rolling Stone.

Your 33 Black Angels will be making its first appearance at SXSW, playing TC’s Lounge on March 13th! We’ll be playing with our Brooklyn brethren Butane Variations, who you’ve probably heard once or twice on SIRIUS Radio’s Left of Center. See you there!
