SDM’s Top 40 Albums of 2009: 10 – 01

SDM09 10-1

Well here are my top ten albums of the year. If you know me at all you will probably find my top five pretty predictable, but I’m fine with that. In retrospect I would say 2009 was a great year for music. Now it’s time to look ahead to 2010 and hope that it’s just as good, maybe even better.

    Lucas says,

Still willing to admit that I might be missing something, but I think that Girls had one of the most overrated, overhyped albums of the year. Otherwise, solid list, Jake, solid list.

    Jake says,

@Lucas — Thank you for the kind words. Your opinion is not your own regarding the Girls album. It has proven to be quite polarizing. I for one really like it. I think you should give it another listen.

    Mike ryko says,

Wow, that’s got to be some of the most ordinary, lacklustre “revelling-in-lack-ambition” tracks ever put together in a list. I’ll give you every cent I own if, in 5 years time, any of these tracks are of any interest to ANYONE (including the people actually in these bands!).

On the same page of Hypem (your list was sandwiched between them) I heard for the first time Nick Cave & Warren Ellis – Song For Bob, and Massive Attack – Parasise Circus.
Both truly awesome pieces of music.

Try and aim higher than ankle-height.

    Pop Librarian says,

Great list guys! I’m ashamed to admit it, but I haven’t listened to nearly enough of what’s here. Phoenix, Wilco, and Grizzly Bear all make my top 10 list, though, so we’re in the same boat there. Bitte Orca is just outside, like #11-12.

I guess I don’t really “get” Animal Collective, but I’m sure it’s just me.

Anyways, I’m hoping I can get Salad Days to partner with Pop Librarian, which is becoming another blog aggregator now! Pretty exciting for me. Stop by and have a look around and submit your blog so we can grow together! Or hit me up on twitter.

    Keep the great writing coming!

    Frank says,

c’mon jake. what are you thinking? putting music in your top albums list because you like it? that’s absurd! you should be more like mike and conform to the nonconformists.
